My current ASUS is on the rocks and everything else i use is MAC (IPAD, IPHONE, and IMAC at work) so i am looking to make the switch to a rMBP as my personal computer. My current laptop is a 2012, bought new, so I'm hesitant to get another laptop that is 2 years old.

The rMBP I'm looking at has the following specs: 2012, 2.6 Ghz i7, 8 GB ram, 512 GB, Retina Display.

A similar rMBP refurb newer 2013 would be around $2000 and this one is almost half that. I would mainly use this for work and light photo/video editing.

Any suggestions?

Honestly, unless you need the maxed out model, the 2012 model is a great purchase. Externally, the computers are exactly the same, and the internals aren't that vastly improved.

If you can get the 2012 rMBP with those specs for 1k - do it

I'm using one of those right now. It's a fantastic machine. Wouldn't be without it.

Thanks. I have been talking with the seller some more and this is the information i got. The photos he provided look good. Got a picture of the serial/part/model number and the specs check out online. So as long as the serial number matches on the comp when i look at it, i feel pretty safe about buying it. Serial number says it has a valid purchase date on Apple.com but it is out of warranty.

Well i ended up getting it. $1k, and it's in great shape. Really happy with the whole deal.

What site do you use to check the serial number? And how do you know once you run it, it's legit and not stolen? Looking to get a 2012 Retina also. Thanks!

Congrats! If it tells you anything the 2012 rMBP is the only macbook I haven't replaced in the 6 years I've bought/sold 4 other MBPs lol.
2008 mbp 15 had gpu problem - fixed and then sold
2010 mbp 15 had igpu issue - sold
2011 mbp 15 gpu issue - sold
2012 rMBP running strong after over 2 years of heavy use. Battery still 94% capacity even!
