Any native Koreans travel to US know if a VISA is required or not?

I need help, I'm trying to help out a friend from South Korea. He wants to visit the US and has a Korean passport. But I'm not sure if he needs to get a visa before purchasing a plane ticket or if its even required? He is coming here for about 4 weeks to visit.

If he does require a visa, what is the process of acquiring one. Does he get it done when he lands in the US or is this supposed to be done way in advanced before he purchases a plane ticket? I've tried looking online and there are some people that say a visa isn't required and some say that it is. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks I've came across this before but wasn't familiar with it. Is it pretty straight forward and does it cost anything?

Is this required every time you visit the US or does it expire after so and so years?

The ESTA is pretty straight forward and it can probably be completed in 10 minutes. There is a $4 processing charge and a $10 authorization charge, so it costs a total of $14.

The ESTA is usually valid for 2 years or whenever the traveller's passport expires - whichever is sooner. You can check the status of your ESTA here: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/
