Refurbished 2014 15-Inch Retina MacBook Pro Now Available in Apple's Online Store

Apple today added several new models of the current 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro to its online store for refurbished products, marking their first availability at a lower cost since their July 2014 launch date.

There are six different models available, which are currently mistakenly listed under the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro section, an error that should be corrected soon. While one machine displays a shipping estimate of 24 hours, the rest offer shipping estimates of three to five days.

Discounts of more than $400 are available on some models, with prices that are approximately 15 percent off the standard pricing on brand new machines. Available models are as follows:

- 2.2GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 16GB RAM, 256GB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics: $1,699 ($300 savings)

- 2.2GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 16GB RAM, 512GB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics: $1,949 ($350 savings)

- 2.5GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 16GB RAM, 512GB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics/NVIDIA GeFore GT 750M: $2,099 ($400 savings)

- 2.8GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 16GB RAM, 512GB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics/NVIDIA GeFore GT 750M: $2,289 ($410 savings)

- 2.5GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 16GB RAM, 1TB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics/NVIDIA GeFore GT 750M: $2,549 ($450 savings)

- 2.8GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 16GB RAM, 1TBGB flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics/NVIDIA GeFore GT 750M: $2,719 ($480 savings)

Models of the latest 2014 13-inch Retina MacBook Pros have not yet shown up in Apple's refurbished store.

How is less RAM, less storage, and less processing power a better deal? A MacBook Pro at that price is a better workstation in just about every way, even if you take away the display/keyboard/trackpad. I'd argue the Mac Pro's GPUs are the only benefit if you have a need for them in your workflow, but those D300s aren't much to brag about.

Don't get me wrong. The Mac Pro is a great machine, but the entry-level model is a terrible value when compared to a MacBook Pro (or iMac) in the same price range.

i have iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, 2014 MacBook Air 11", Apple TV 3, and hackintosh workstation. But ill never get macbook pro. their pricing is just not right. Extra $450 for upgrading from 512GB SSD to 1TB SSD?? Jesus.. No...no..noo

I just ordered a refurb late 2013 macbook pro 15 last week. Is there a way i can call apple and they exchange it where they can send me the new one and i send back the old one once i receive it?

It's a terabyte of gigabytes- the amount of storage "computer professionals" and Apple diehards swear they need onboard their iPhones and iPads-- otherwise the devices are "crippled" or "barely useable".

The ram thing can be remedied cheaply. You can get as high as 32GB via upgrades without exponential cost increases. Processing power isn't higher on the macbook pro. Geekbench shows only the top 15" beating the lowest mac pro by a couple hundred points, but it's likely to be strongly in the mac pro's favor when it comes to lengthy computations. The mac pro has more graphics power. I don't recall the difference in storage speeds. As you point out though, the markup is quite high.

My almost maxed late 2013 15" rMBP is by some margin the nicest computer I've ever owned, going back to the Sinclair ZX81.

That is all.

It's also concur that my rMBP is easily the best computer I've ever owned. It's worth every penny.
