I'm posting this here try to understand if this is a post.
When logged into a user on an iMac one can connect to a OS X server and the drive will show up on the desktop.
Then one changes user on the same mac (switch users then login new)
On the desktop of the se one user, the same drive appears (I already think this is not normal). But if one tries to open that drive, OS X will say you don't have the correct rights. This makes sense. Ejecting the drive gives a similar not possible message.
So then one connects to the same drive on the server. A second drive, identical to the first appears. This drives gives access to all the relevant files. The previous still says you don't have the correct rights.
Then one can eject the second drive. Ok. And eject the first. Ok ?? So one has ejected a drive that was previously not ejectable, simply because it has the same name ?
So one switches back to the previous user to see if his drive is still available. It is not.
I conclude that OS X tries to make sure each user has correctly logged into a server drive, but eventually it can be tricked it allowing the eject of the drive opened by another user. This is sort of a DoS - or is it not ?
I would think that;
- a drive connected by one user should not be visible to another user (even if access is denied)
- a user should not be able to disconnect the drive of another user just by connecting, then ejecting to that same drive
Is this a bug ?
