How To Retrieve Data Crashed HD

Take the drive to a data recovery service along with a very large check, expect the cost to be in excess of $1000. You are about to learn a lesson on why backing up is NOT something you should do but is something you MUST do. Sorry to be harsh but these days there is absolutely no reason to not have a backup plan in place.

I had a similar experience, except my hard drive was in my mac pro and I did the entire disk repair from the Apple Recovery partition and it gave me the same error.

I searched around the internet and got jack for my efforts. Then on a whim i went to a local mac repair place and they recommended DiskWarrior from Alsoft.

Buy a copy of diskwarrior and it will be your only chance of getting back your data. wihtout sending the hard drive into a specialist. My disk drive is malfunctioned, but DiskWarrior was able to recover the data off of it.

Beyond that you will have to go to a place of business that specilizes in pulling data off of a failed hard drive. But that course is more expensive, but they can recover anything short of you sending your hard drive into an MRI's magnetic field.

Now DiskWarrior will set you back 100 bucks, but it is totally worth it and a much cheaper alternative to sending in your hard drive to get the data recovered.

I wouldn't see it as being "out $122". Even if it didn't work in this case he'd still own DiskWarrior, a product well worth having around and a USB3 dock, although I personally own and am partial to this Inateck UASP dock.

while i don't know all the benefits of "disk warrior", if you would never use that software again and it was useless in this event, i would consider it a waste. i realize that ***** happens, but i've never had to use any of these programs ever in 25+ years of computer ownership.

Hey Silus85,

Once you find a decent program, a simple SATA to USB cable should work for you. They have two USB ends which provide enough power for the drive to work as an external one and you can operate on it.
Otherwise, I would also recommend a reputable data recovery company as this is your best shot of getting all your data back. A list of data recovery companies should be listed on the drive's manufacturer website. I would suggest that you do nothing before you send it there in order not to further corrupt your files and have the chance of getting the data back lowered.

Since you have taken the old drive out, have you tried connecting it to the Mac externally, as of yet?

BEFORE you send it out for "data recovery", I suggest that you do this.

A USB3/SATA dock is the ideal device by which to make the connection. The $$$ this costs you will be well-spent.

Again, have you tried an external connection?
What results do you get?
