Thunderbolt display USB issues

Recently Im having issues where the USB dock on my thunderbolt display stops working. It will still charge my headphones via micro usb but won't connect my iPhone when it plugs in. Ive tried different cables and nothing works. Ive plugged it into the laptop and it connect fine. This happened a few days ago and I unplugged screen and it went back to working again. Any idea what this could be from? I did update the firmware recently. I would prefer to not have to lug this into the apple store
