Developers which display would you choose?

Hello,

I can't make up my mind between these following three Dell displays. I hope someone could help me out.

1) 2X Dell U2415 = 444 Euros
2) 1X Dell U2715H = 400 Euros
3) 1X Dell U2414Q = 480 Euros

I have the high end late 2013 15" rMBP and use it for web and iOS development.
Currently using an old 24 inch Samsung (Full HD) display as a second monitor, but it's due for replacement. At work I use 2 24 inch Full HD Dell displays, which works great.

I've never used a 27 inch monitor or a 4K monitor before, so I don't know how the experience will be using any of those two for development. I hope someone could share his/her experience with me so I can finally make up my mind.
 
I'm also looking into external monitors. Deciding on whether to get 1 or 2. The Dell U2414H 24" monitors look great value for money available for £150. I think I am going to go ahead with 2 of these.

Yes, I was considering those as well.

There is just one thing I'm not sure about. My current Samsung screen has a resolution of 1920*1200. When I plug it into my rMBP using HDMI, a few inches on the bottom of the screen show up as vertical lines. I'm guessing this is because of the HDMI output only being able to output to 1080? So the 120 extra pixels on my screen are "scrambled"? Could anyone confirm this?
 
Tough question, which I am still trying to answer myself. Personally I prefer 2 x monitors and I really like the 24" size. I also prefer 1920x1200 (16:10) resolution. But looking at the prices of the 4K monitors, I would be seriously tempted by that, if I was buying new one.
 
Any of these monitors are good choices for staring at a screen all day, since they're all IPS displays. I prefer dual 24" displays for development, since most IDEs like XCode and Eclipse are designed to have their UIs take over the full screen, and then you can put a browser or iPhone simulator window on the other screen. But, that's for use with a desktop machine where I'm not plugging and unplugging it every day. For a laptop, I'd go with a single 27" display. Ideally a 4K display like the P2715Q, since your laptop can handle it, but the U2715H is a good monitor as well.

You are absolutely right about the dual 24" screens for desktop use. Didn't really think of that. It's not that I will be closing down my laptop and using the dual screens instead. So a single 27" makes more sense, combined with the beautiful rMBP screen as the main screen.

Thanks! Now I just have to decide which 27" screen to get, the HD or QHD :D

Where do you get this price of €400 for the U2715h?

I currently have a U2414H and I'm looking at adding either the U2715H or a U2415.

For maximum working space I think you can't go wrong with two U2415s, especially now that the price has come down a bit. For me however because I already have the U2414H (it will be my 1080p content viewing monitor), I think I'll go for the U2715H.

Also if you're in Holland, try nl.hardware.info to get the best price.
