Hey folks,
Looking to get some opinions on an upcoming purchase.
I am currently using an early 2011 MBP that just is not cutting it anymore. I use Final Cut Pro X to cut together GoPro and T3i footage (1080p 24/30/60fps) and I also use Lightroom and Photoshop CS6 to process RAW photos. In addition to those heavier tasks, I do a lot of web browsing and content consuming, and I am planning on using two external monitors.

My choices for computers are as follows:
Late 2013 MBPr 15": 2.5 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GeForce 750M (2GB): $2,099 from the refurbished store
OR
Early 2014 MBPr 15": 2.5GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GeForce750M (2GB): $2,299 new with education discount.

Basically, will I see performance differences between the two that are significant enough to warrant the extra money?

Thanks,

respeck

Go to Best Buy and get the 2014. Currently on sale for $2199.00 get a change of address packet from the post office. Use the 10% off one item coupon for Best Buy. Takes the price to $1979.00. I did this today.

There would be no detectable differences in performance. On the early/late variations you might see a few points in benchmarks, but nothing at all in actual use. In fact if the 2013 model isn't enough, then a macbook pro isn't appropriate for your needs, because there isn't enough differentiation beyond that point to make any kind of difference.
