My nephews iPod touch has a faulty home button - it has lost its click.
Having looked at the iFixit site - looks like the button is in two parts. The button itself and the "clicker" which is part of the ribbon cable.

I'm guessing it is more likely to be the ribbon cable that will need replacing rather than the home button ?

Yeah. The button is just a piece of plastic. if the home button has an issue, its the cable.
