I've been using Time Machine (TM) and I've made a lot of changes the past few days trying to backup my Microsoft Outlook User Data (backup Outlook 2011).

I took a TM backup last night, I think it was about 20GB if my memory serves me correctly.
I need to do another now as I'm about to try another restore of my Outlook 2011. I'm getting an alert 'backup too large for the backup disk. Requires 266GB but only 90 GB available'. Which seems crazy; so I've deleted the previous TM backup by dragging the folder to the Trash and it has not seemed to have an effect.
I'm still unable to do the backup. Anyone recommend anything here?

Click on finder & click secure delete trash and see if that helps.
Trash goes to a separate file on the computer, you need to 'secure delete' to fully remove the items.

May I suggest an alternative to Time Machine?

Boot from install DVD or recovery partition.

Open Disk Utility

Select partition to backup

Click New Image

Save it to desired HDD or partition

To recover - reverse the process

To me this always works as expected. Besides since I have moved home folder to a documents partition my full system backup only takes about 100 seconds for 20Gb
