Hey guys, I'm considering to upgrade my iPhone 5 to 5S. Used to have the 6 but my hands are so small, I actually prefer the 4-inch iPhones. iOS 8.4 b2 is running okay on the iPhone 5 but wanna upgrade to the 5S based on these few reasons

1. Improved battery life (I have used a couple of 5s and 5S-es in the past and I've definitely experienced better batt life with the 5S. Not sure if it's due to its 130 mah battery upgrade on 5S or the 32nm cpu -> 28nm cpu

2. Better camera

3. Will be updating to iOS 9 and not looking to upgrade to the iPhone 6 series.

4. Touch ID

Yeah these are the few reasons. Just wondering if it's worth the money to upgrade to a used 5S when my iPhone 5 is working well for me currently. I'm definitely not looking to upgrade to the iPhone 6 or 6S due to its larger size and I dislike the design.

Thanks in advance :)

Upgrading my iPhone 5 to 5S - wise? Advisable?

The 5S is a worthy upgrade to the 5 but honestly I'd go with the 6. I know you said it's too big but you'll get used to it, my fiancée has small hands and she loves her 6.

Either that or wait till Apple announces the new 6S line this fall.

The op said 6 is too big so 5s is the best option. Difference between battery life between 5 and 5s is like day and night

If you're dead-set against anything larger, I would still consider waiting until the fall to see if Apple does indeed release a new 4" model. Some people believe that they might release a "6c" which will be 4" and have the internals of the 6. In my opinion, the improvements from the 5 to the 5s aren't that noticeable to most users, except for TouchID.

Hmm, apart from the screen size (obvious) and battery life (obvious), even the 6+ isn't a huge upgrade over the iPhone 5 and when it comes to RAM it's actually a downgrade (32Bit v 64Bit). I wouldn't put much if any money into swapping an i5 for a 5S. I wouldn't even swap it for a 6/6+. My advice would be to wait for a new, smaller iPhone to be released that has 2GB of RAM.

The iPhone 5 has 1GB of RAM just like the iPhone 5S.
However, the iPhone 5 is 32Bit and the iPhone 5S is 64Bit.
64Bit devices use more RAM than 32Bit devices, so therefore the iPhone 5 has more free RAM than the 5S/6/6+.

Do it. My gf just did the same (5-->5s), and it's a good upgrade if you don't like the bigger phones. Waiting for the 6s is pointless as it'll almost certainly be the same size as the current generation.

I would wait and see if there is new a 4-inch iPhone. They might implement a 14nm A8, so it would have better battery life. And what makes you think that the iPhone 5 won't have iOS 9? On that note, iOS 9 will probably make battery more manageable. It could also implement a Touch ID sensor onto the iPhone 5 ;)

An update here. Bought a 5S on a cheap but got diddled out of this deal. The screen was popping out and I only realized it 4 hours after buying it. Took it to Apple Store and they demanded $450 to replace the device. Called Apple hotline and they still won't budge. So I'll be selling this 5S at a loss and go back to my iPhone 5 since it's working fine with no issues. I'll keep a lookout for a 4 inch iPhone 6C or smth and remind myself to buy AppleCare+ next time
