Hi

Would this work?

  1. Two iMacs
  2. One Time Capsule in between the two iMacs connected by Ethernet.
  3. This first TC will hold all the shared files for each iMac to use (like a mini server)
  4. This first TC will be connected to an ADSL router.
  5. I'd then like to put the second TC in my neighbour's house (about 20 metres away - he's agreed to this idea as I'll be making the same offer in reverse) so that the first TC can do an off-site back-up to the second TC wirelessly.

If this would work, which bit of hardware would control the DHCP? The ADSL router, TC1 or TC2?

Thanks

The TC connected to the ADSL would control the DHCP. The network would be set up as a WDS and the second TC would be the remote base station. The Airport setup utility will help you set this up fine.

Many thanks, samh004 - cool. So I'd just disable DHCP on the other TC and on the ADSL modem. Sounds like a perfect scenario.
