Rampaging Tokyo
Hello.
I’ve purchased a used emac from a friend. 800Mhz, 256MB, 60GB HD, SuperDrive. Nice little machine for the kids.

It has OSX 10.2 (Jaguar). I would like to upgrade it to Tiger. (wont support Leopard).

My plan was to take my iBook license of Tiger, install it on the eMac, and then purchase Leopard license for my iBook. Would like to know if this is legit.

To see if this was viable, I tried to install Tiger on the eMac with the install DVD that came with my iBook. It starts up the install process, and the says that it cannot be installed on this machine.

So, any help in this matter appreciated. I’m not trying to circumvent anything. If possible to buy leopard for iBook and use it’s existing license on eMac that would be great. Help on why it wont install would be appreciated.

If this is not viable, not a biggie, I will get whatever I need.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm pretty sure the OS X install CDs that come with a Mac are locked to that "line" of Macs. Though I have been able to use my Power Mac G4 OS X install disc on a Power Mac G3, an eMac, and an iMac G3, I think the difference between the Mac laptops and desktops is too much.

You might try looking on eBay for a cheap Tiger DVD for the Power Mac G4. I got mine for about $40.

Well, first of all, that eMac won't run Leopard very well, even if you hack it on. I think the reason why Tiger won't install on it is cause they're very different machines, and by this point Apple has realized that people were putting install disks on the wrong computers.

Just buy Tiger, it'll run great.

Ya, I think you are right. It even says "iBook" on the dvd.

Is eBay the best place to pickup a Tiger install, or does Apple sell at maybe a discount (I did not see them on their website).
