Well, I'm finally upgrading my Panther-rocking eMac for the entry-level Macbook.

That's all I know, but I have some queries about things surrounding the purchase:

i. I have been using Micosoft Office X on my eMac, and wondered how that would run on the Intel Macbook. I have left university now, so I don;t use Office extensively, mainly Word. Is iWork worth the extra 50 quid, or will I be ok with Office X running on Rosetta?

ii. I'm very tempted by Crucial's LOW RAM deals - 50 quid for 4gb. I guess that's a no-brainer, even if I'm using it mainly for net/email.
I seem to remember it best to install the RAM before you've even started the Mac up for the first time. Is this true? Or can I see how I cope with 1gb, then upgrade later, and feel the same benefit?

Basically: RAM or iWork?

iWork is definitely worth it, or you could have a look at the free NeoOffice :)

RAM is good, but there's no problem in waiting until the price has gone down...

well, if all your need is word. Just use neooffice or open office.

You want to put more RAM in the thing, leopard won't be that happy with 1G default.

My MB is running Office great on Leopard with one gb...

well, My information is from readings here and there. Sure larger memory will do better when using more large apps.

But I don't have leopard, so if it runs fine with 1G, thats even better, OP can save all his money then :)

Right, have just ordered the Macbook, along with 4GB of RAM from Crucial. I went with the Apple > Macbook > Core 2 Duo MB061LL/B configuration at the Crucial site. I assume this is correct, for the entry level white Macbook?

i got macbook orignally with 1gb with Firefox/itunes open for 1 hour i had 9mb ram left....

now on 4gb :)

just my 2 pence (from GB LOL)

Well done on the 4gig ram decision. You won't regret it, and can save the rest of your money and use open office for your office apps. Maybe start saving up for your next mac in the future. :)
