Target Disk doesn't work!

I started up my main Power Mac (733 Digital Audio) in target disk mode connected to my powerbook (12" 1.33ghz) so I can install Leopard from the dvd drive on the desktop, and the Power Mac doesn't mount on my Powerbook! The Power Mac is in target disk mode, it has the firewire symbol bouncing around the screen like an old screensaver. The firewire cable is plugged all the way in on both computers. What is wrong?
