Hey Guys

I'm new to the whole iPod hacking scene, and I had a few questions...

I just ordered a new iPod touch, I'm assuming it has the 1.1.3 firmware with the new applications...

What are my options for hacking the touch to install 3rd party apps on it? I would rather not have to downgrade my firmware and lose all the new features, which from what I've read, seems to be the case... I'm running a PC, but I also have access to a Mac if it's easier. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

JB 1.1.3 is pretty new. New things are popping up all the time, it might change by the time yours shows up. I'd say you should start reading. Here and at ipodtouchfans.com might help.

Note that many of the apps are not ready for 1.1.3, yet. A lot of people are sticking with 1.1.2 for now. You can always downgrade to 1.1.1 or .2.

you won't have to 'downgrade' since 1.1.3 has been jailbroken. . .though you'll have to use the 'patch' to get iphone apps and wiggly icons. . .

JAT is right though, if you want to JB for things like themes you will need to wait for an update to summerboard

The 1.1.3 jailbreak works by upgrading a jailbroken 1.1.2, so yes, you will have to downgrade. It's really not that difficult. It took me a total of about 10 minutes to downgrade my 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 and get it to a jailbroken 1.1.3, including downloading of the firmware.

Also, I'm not sure why there is this consensus that nothing works on 1.1.3, but I am having no problems. It seems a lot of people have used incorrect jailbreaking files and are causing problems for themselves. Besides Customize and SummerBoard, which probably don't mean anything to you anyhow, all the apps work great. Even the new "Locate Me" feature of the Maps widget works for me.

It seems like a lot of people on here post as if they know what they are talking about but they actually don't. They just sound like they do.
