im not an expert on this but i am looking to buy a new ipod. i want the touch 8g but im not really sure it will hold all the things i want. its says 1750 songs, 10 hours of video etc. will it hold 10 hours and 1750 songs or just one or the other? i have about 1500 songs in my library and it is almost 7g. will it still hold 10 hours of video on top of that? thanks

that sucks!! if i get the 16g and i put on 7g of music how much hours of video can i hold? thanks

Also think about how much of your library you actually will use when you're out and about. If you're like me you find yourself only listening to a couple dozen tracks at a time. I keep about half my library on my iPod because frankly, the other half I don't listen to any more. As for videos, I only keep one or two on. Even with the bigger screen, its not the most enjoyable thing to watch.

Also, that 1750 song estimate is based on 128 bit aac file size and 4 minute song length (iirc), so if your songs are encoded at a bit rate higher than 128 or longer than 4 minutes long, then you'll get even less. Conversely, if your music is mainly fast punk pop songs that are mostly 2:30 minutes long, then you'll be able to fit many more songs on.

What people usually dont realize is that you wont want to watch the same movie or show over and over again and the 8gb iPod touch would be perfect. It will hold all of your music and maybe 2 or 3 movies depending on length.

And its very simple to switch movies as I'm sure you've used an iPod.

this is pretty much how I use mine aswell, I haven't actually been in a situation where I have watched the two films I have on mine yet !

Oh and becasue of the large screen the Touch made me totally OCD about having 600x600 album art for all my albums !

Both the ten hours of video and the 1750 songs are estimates. Depending on how your content is encoded and the length of the content that decides how much you will be able to store.

and it's one or the other. Ten hours of video or 1750 songs.

EDIT: whoa. it seems I had this page open too long and other people beat me to it a long time ago.

Its easy to switch out videos as others say but I would think its a pain to keep switching out music. Who knows what you'll be in a mood for. But that depends on your listening habits.

So even just for the music, I would go for the Classic. You music collection is bound to expand and you don't want to buy a player thats will already be at capacity in the beginning.

Either that or wait for the next iPod Touch release! If you're able...

Not to point you away from the wonderful world of Apple but there are other audio/video players that will hold the amount you have for a cheaper price. But from what you said, an 80GB Classic would be fine.

Ditto. Find myself listening to a few tracks or a video. With all my business travel I still never ask myself, "where is this song." I have my favorites and then other songs and I'm good to go.

Show me one that hacks the fact Apple locked me into an iPod with iTunes DRM and I'm game!

when is the new touch coming out? if i do docide to go with the 8gb touch i have exactly 6.59gb of music now. will i at least be able to fit one movie?

also how much gb does the 8gb touch really have you know after the programs etc.

you know now i have been thinking of the 16g. but is it really worth $400????

With that much music i would say only one movie and thats pushing it.
And i would say in your situation that the 16gb is well worth the price because you will be able to fit all of your music and at the least 4 movies.

And dont forget about all the iPod touch is able to do with safari and the apps plus the screen is perfect for movies and album art. So all in all i think you would know were your money went once you get a hold of one. I was hesitent to pay even $300 for my 8gb when i could have gotten a classic but i'm soooo glad i went with the touch.

I've got 2399 songs, 1 2 hour movie, and 3 episodes of the office on my 16gb touch with a little or a gig to spare
