Okay, what lock (or other security measure) is best for securing a MBP? Targus, Kensington, something else?

Ive heard alot of negative reviews about the kensington lock.

Kensington makes a variety of locks. I wouldn't count all of them out.
I'm getting this one:

Kensington has 3 levels of protection. Premium are the best and have a tempered steel core.
Nothing is foolproof. But this will do for most needs.

My friend has one of those and it moves alot when its in the slot for his mbp.
