Hey guys.

I have had my Mac Pro since July of 07. You can see the specs in my sig. I have the ATI Radeon x1900. For a long time there was no problem at all. But starting about a month ago, when my computer is being lightly used and even when it is in idle (not being used at all), the video card fan is running excessively loud. It is running at the level it should when I am rendering video in Final Cut or large frames in Maya. I was a little confused/frustrated, but it was not a priority to fix, until today.

Earlier tonight, a couple apps crashed on my Mac Pro. I was forced to shut down the computer by holding down the power button for 6 seconds. When I turned it back on, the fans blew about three times as loud as above mentioned. There was no video being displayed on my Cinema Displays (23 and 20") and it continued both the 3X loud fans and no display for over 5 minutes, so I shut down again. I turned it on again, and it did the same thing, this time showing the boot screen (apple with spinning wheel) and eventually the fan lowered down but the screen was stuck on the blue that comes up right before the OS GUI shows up.

At this point it seemed as though the computer was running, just without any real video output. I verified this by successfully connecting to the Mac Pro via a networked MacBook Pro and viewed/copied files from the Mac Pro. After about 10 minutes, the blue went away and the OS GUI showed up, and has been ok ever since, aside from the loud fan noise.

If anyone is even still reading this, and thinks they can offer any advice. Please let me know. I appreciate any help that you can give. Thanks!
