2 GB RAM or 3 GB RAM on my MBP

SO I want to upgrade my MBP with some more RAM.
I have 2GB RAM installed and I just found out that my MBP (since it's a bit old) has a max of 3 GB.
Would it be worth it to upgrade to 3 instead of 2 GB? I'm fully aware of this dual core duo 2 thing that performs best with symmetrically placed RAM.
SO would my machine actually run slower with 3 than with 2 GB RAM?

The additional Gb of RAM that I put in my 2.33 MBP made all the difference when using Quark 7, Adobe CS3 and also Word 2004 running through Rosetta. Far less (and slow) disk thrashing. Even Safari gets greedy at times...

Recommended without hesitation.

So do you have 3 GB of RAM now?
My MBP is an intel with Core 2 duo which I way I'm wondering if it would give me a performance boost.

The only reason I'm having this discussion is that RAM is so cheap at the moment so if I could get even a slight performance boost by having 4gb instead of 3gb I would def choose 4gb.

Look at it this way. If you go for 4GB, you will only be allowed to access 3.3GB of this memory. So the difference between 3GB and 4GB is essentially an increase of 0.3GB of memory, and you get dual channel mode too. 2GB of Ram is selling for $50 max. Would you get it? Kinda subjective, so it's your choice.

On the other hand, depending on what you do with the MBP, you may not even notice the advantage of DCM.
 
Well right now frys is selling 4gb of crucial ram for 84.99 with a 20 dollar mail in rebate.I was told by the guysat core care (a apple authorized repair center)That it is better to put in 4gb set of ram then to just buy one 2 gb stick
 
Let me clarify what Core Care guy said ."it is better to have a set of ram then use to different ram sticks bought seperatly

I have now bought 2 GB RAM so that I now have 3GB RAM i total.
I'm pretty happy with the performance boost.
I just might gonna buy 2GB more to get the DCM effect and the 0.3GB more RAM:)
