Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here could give me some help or point in the right direction.

I'm a current art student, with lots of things to carry around all the time.
Art Supplies (Color Pencils, acrylic paints, sketch pencils, rulers, notebooks, you name it)
and I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro.

My issue is that I used to have a messenger bag that kind of fit it all before. But it's getting really messed up, and it's not the greatest protecting back for the laptop. As the other day I kinda hit the corner of my kitchen wall with the bag.. and all the shock impact went to the laptop (kinda made my heart stop for a sec)

Now my question is... Does anyone have a great suggestions for THE ultimate bag?
I personally hate "backpacks" because they get too bulky and then don't fit in my locker. But right now anything is game, I guess.
But I wanted to know if you guys could direct me in the right direction.

Any suggestions?

This has got to be "THE ultimate" bag....

But, it is a backpack...

I have this Crumpler bag. I too am an artist and this bag is fantastic!
I'm going to be an art student next fall (MassArt), but I already find myself with this type of bag. Something like this is great (find one with interior padding), I like it because if you're dressed nicely, a backpack is kinda lame and can mess up your suit/business clothes.

If you really want to protect the MBP (and I'm guessing you do!!!), then I'd second the suggestion that you look at Tom Bihn products. It wouldn't be cheap - you'd need to get both the Brain Cell to put the laptop in, and then something else to put the Brain Cell in . . . but you'd end up with lots of storage space and a well-protected laptop!

The other alternative for protection is Higher Ground. They do laptop bags for schools that are "kid-proof" - but I'm not sure they have one that has enough storage space for you. Might be worth taking a look, though. (The Laptrap might be big enough.)

Sooner or later, iSaver will be selling their laptop case in the U.S., and that will give you super protection that you can drop into any other bag you please! But it's not available yet . . . :(
