imovie audio skimming issue

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Right now I can't get the audio skimming to work. I make sure I click on the skimming icon, or I go to VIEW and click on audio skimming, or command + K and nothing works.

I can play the video with sound, or if I double click on a section I can also get sound. But no sound when I try skimming. The meter turns green as I try skimming, but no sound.

Any ideas what is going on?

Probably should mention I am using a 1.8 intel core 2 duo macmini
OS X 10.5.2
imovie 7.1.1 (529)
