Apple Stores stock of Penryn 17" MBP?

Hello all,

First time poster...and soon to be first time Mac owner. I have a question that you may not have the exact answer for, but since most have been with Mac for some time you could help me get a better idea of what I'm looking at.

Ok, here's my deal. I have saved up just about all the money I need for my Mac but have to sell my PC for the remaining money to buy it. I'm looking at being able to buy the MBP around the 3rd week of April.

I will be buying:
2.5 ghz
250GB HD
2GB RAM
17" High-res matte

Do you think that by that time (mid April) that the Apple stores would have a stock of what I'm wanting? I notice that right now it's looking like 7-10 days by ordering online. The reason I ask this is the PC laptop I will be selling is my only computer and I'm a sports photographer and April is a busy month for me with baseball. So being without a computer for to long is not good for me.

I live about 15 min. from the local Apple store, so if I had to sell my only computer and they had the MBP in stock there would be no downtime for me.

I highly doubt that they will sell the MBP with the specs that you want. They are going to sell it in the "stock" 17" version is everything you want except the High Resolution screen $2799. The other version they will sell in the store will be, what one employee called, the Ultimate. The "Ultimate" will be 2.6 with 200 gig, and High Rez screen for $3199

I see that Apple has that version on their display card, but has anyone actually seen it in the store?

I really want the above unit (for $3199), but every time I go in to the Apple Store it's hasn't arrived yet. Anyone get one or see one at the Apple Stores yet?

I think that may not be the case. They have a card next to the MBP saying they carry this model:

2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm

And that they are waiting to get more in stock at the store. Has anyone seen/bought these yet?
 
Yes, the store will have it.

If they have the display card for it, that is what they will stock. The store near me will be carrying that exact configuration, they just don't have any in stock yet.

To my knowledge the stores will NOT stock the 2.6Ghz option or the Glossy screen option. But they will have the base 17" with the LED Matte.

Exactly.

I am waiting by the day for the Apple Store here in LA to get one!! :D
