So heres the deal, I have an old G5 tower, with a dual 2.0 chip and 2 gigs of ram... and i also have a macbook pro with a 2.16 dual card and 2 gigs of ram...

but i am currently doing many paid projects using HDV footage, and on my laptop, it takes about 45 mins to render 6 mins of video...

is it time to upgrade to a mac pro? or should i try to upgrade my old G5 tower?

thanks :)

The minute you say 'Video for pay', I say MAC PRO. As long as you're using Intel-ready software (you don't specify what editing package you're using), your Macbook Pro is already considerably faster than a maxed-out G5 dual. You really want an octo-core MacPro with plenty o' RAM.

If there's any relationship at all between rendering time and money, you can't afford not to be in 8-proc land...

Separately, you have GREAT backups of your in-progress work, right? Just a reminder...
