All,

My MBP is coming in a week or two - I hope. I was idly thinking the other day:
is the optical drive in it easily replaceable? Would there be a possibility that at some point in the future, I could put a Blu-Ray compatible DVD drive in there?

I won't cry if not, was just thinking about it.

Swapping hard drives is fairly common but I've never really seen anyone say that they swapped out the optical drive. I'm sure it's far more complicated to do. Plus, you would need to get a Blu-ray drive of just the right dimensions to fit properly.

I think your best bet if you absolutely must have this is to wait for the likely revision in June.

Fastmac has their Panasonic replacement Blu ray drives.

My question is this: Once the part materializes, is it kosher with apple care if a mac authorized tech installs it?
