If I sign up for a go phone plan with AT&T do I have to buy minutes?

Do I get charged a daily or monthly fee for the plan?

What is the current way to get a Go Phone plan, do you still just use a fake SS#? If so what is the best one?

Basically I want a Go Phone plan, but I don't want to use it. :)

There are two plans, one charges you a $1 connection fee per day you use your minutes, but gives a cheaper per minute charge. The other allows you to purchase minutes, for a higher rate, but no daily charge.

OK, so since I will not be using any minutes at all I will still have valid AT&T contract, but at no cost to me correct?

So if I buy some minutes would I need to use them for the account to stay valid? If I use the phone for a couple of minutes once a month would that work?

Also the iphone will be unlocked to use on T-mobile, do I need to relock the phone (lose all my settings, apps, etc.) in order to use the AT&T card again?

I would expect that, if the phone is unlocked, you can just drop the ATT card back in at any point and use it. You'd only need to re-lock it if you were going in for warranty service.

Did you ever figure out how to get the go phone plan with an iPhone in the first place? I'm still curious if it's even possible at this point.

I know that a few people have done it, so I am hoping that it is possible. I want to use it unlocked but keep the warranty valid if needed, and if that costs me a couple of dollars per month it will be worth it.

Yes, the account needs to be refilled every 90 days to keep it active. If you don't use the minutes within 90 days, it gets cancelled and you lose the minutes. If you refill within 90 days, your unused minutes roll over.

I believe T-Mobiles pay as you go plans work very similar, they are in it to make money after all.

The iPhone would need to be unlocked to be able to use a GoPhone sim. 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 firmwares made this have to happen.

I remember reading in this forum about Apple refusing warranty on non AT&T activated iPhones, just do a search.

Doesn't this pretty much mean her plan won't work, given that you'd have to re-lock the phone to take it in for service, at which point the go phone sim wouldn't work? Or would you actually activate the go phone sim through ATT in your iPhone while it's unlocked?

The iPhone won't activate under a GoPhone plan. It will activate in iTunes under a Pick a plan monthly plan. So yes, the GoPhone sim won't work when the phone is locked again.
