I'm looking for population data of like the 200 or so largest cities or metropolitan areas currently (worldwide, not just one particular country) as well as the same cities' populations in like 1950 or so, for comparison of growth rates in a project I'm doing.

After Googling forever, I'm still having a hard time coming up with exactly what I need, so I figured I'll ask here.

Anyone have any ideas?

i reccomend looking into the most recent almanac

they have all sorts of infor pertaining to this

Wikipedia and CIA were not very good for what I was looking for.

However, I ended up finally finding a perfect resource that had exactly what I was looking for in nice table form - the UN!

http://esa.un.org/unup/index.asp?panel=2

Can select starting years and ending years... and the data seems to be by metropolitan area population rather than strict city population, which is also exactly what I want.

Other ideas also include the World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO). They have lots of data too.
