Hi,

I am setting up ichat and I don't have an AOL account.
(I was required to give an AOL pasword in order to
login).

Is AOL a must for ichat, when not what other
alternatives can one use ??

If you have an AOL account tell me if it is worth it.
I'll open the free account if it is worth it.

Thank you very much in advance,

igmolinav.

AIM is worth it considering it is the most popular and widely used protocol that is supported by iChat. & considering it is free, why not sign up?

It depends what your friends use....

If you don't have any friends on AIM, it's not that useful to you.

All mine are on AIM, so it's what I use.

Definitely go by what most of your friends use. And with iChat, you can have a lot of different buddy lists open at the same time anyway.

everyone uses MSN no i use Adium. thats right i dont use the microsoft MSN client for Mac as its the wooorrrrst.

i would love it if everyone used AIM so i could use iChat, but it seamed microsoft got to the norm by buying Hotmail and bundling messenger with windows XP.

Same thing over here in the UK.

I use Adium. Now, the only thing iChat offers me over Adium is the Screen Sharing support with other Macs (Which isn't really that needed anyway) since I can use Mebeam perfectly well to do video chatting.

Plus Adium is more customizable... if only it could support Skype!

In response to the OP, find out what your friends use and make your decisions from there. It would be a bad move to get into using AIM if they all use MSN or Yahoo!

I vote for Adium as well. MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, AIM and more... They all work. The only thing that it doesn't do is Videochat, so if that is your thing you will have to stick to iChat.
