I just sold my older MBP for a new Penryn model...

Now that I have it home I'm noticing some strange stuff with the screen. I have the glossy model (old one was glossy too) and it seems like there is a layer of 'haze' or something between the screen and me, and none of the colors seem particularly bright. Am I crazy, or has anyone else noticed something like this. My old MBP definitely wasn't like this.

Consequently, there are also 2 bright pixels right smack in the middle of the screen.

Has anyone had experience returning an apple notebook to a retail store lately for screen issues like this? I kind of want to know what to expect when I walk in there and ask nicely for a replacement (I'm going to the West County store in STL).

Sounds like it shouldn't be a problem to get a replacement for those issues. The Apple Store usually is quite reasonable within the first few days...usually, but not guaranteed.

Have you tried calibrating the display? htat might help with the colors, but the dirty haze feeling you describe is a hardware issue and most likely related to the coating of the LCD. Is it everywhere, or just in some places?

I'd try getting a replacement and, if they cause any trouble, ask to speak with a manager and explain that this is not acceptable to you and that you'd like a replacement. Be pro-active and firm, but friendly. Good luck!

I have used several calibration profiles, and I've done it myself. The haze persists.

It is all over the screen, but the top-left quadrant is the worst.
