This is extremely frustrating.

I am the only one having issues with Word 2008 in spaces and expose?

• When using expose the windows do not highlight correctly.
• When trying to get into word from another space, word just comes and infiltrates the space Im currently working in.

Hmm. You aren't the only one with that problem. Word 2008 did not highlight correctly when I toggled Expose.

Oh good, I am not the only one with the problem... Wait, thats bad... Yea, I am going to re-install 2004 on my powerbook...

Yeah, I have problems with it too. It's really quite annoying, since I use Spaces all the time, and I have my Expose set up to use the mouse pointer in corners to show all open windows and all spaces. So instead of a quick flick of the mouse to switch to a different open document, it's like a flick, click, flick again, hit command-~, click again, get frustrated, and manually click on a different document...

I've had similar Microsoft Word problems on and off since I bought my MacBook Pro in January 08.

Lately, the problem has resurfaced with a new mutation. My cursor has been disappearing on a Word document after I've navigated to another space and then returned to Word. I'm then obligated to take that document on a scenic tour of my other spaces to entice the cursor to reveal itself.

Office 2008 and Spaces issues are a known problem

There are several threads floating around discussing this from a number of views, so "no" you are not alone in this by far

As far as I know there is not a solution available that is satisfactory

I think we're going to have to wait until the next release of Office for it to work properly with Spaces. I don't see them fixing it in Office 2008.

I don't have much hope of it being fixed then either :(
It doesn't seem to be a priority, and with all of the issues in 2008... well

We're aware of this issue, as is Apple. We've made some fixes to our code to make some improvements, and Apple has released OS updates that also make some improvements. But it's not 100% yet, and we don't know when it will be. There are changes that Apple needs to make to their code to resolve the issue.

If you'd like more technical details about what's happening with this, Schwieb, one of our senior developers, wrote a great blog post about it: risks and rewards. The first half of the post is about performance changes, so if you're only interested about Spaces, skip down to the paragraph that begins "Bear with me while I shift gears now".

I've had problems with Office. I seldom use it anymore, rather opting for textedit for the odd essay here and there. Or use Pages. I might reinstall Office 2004 to see if that is any better.

Word isn't a bad program per se, but it isn't really a very good one, either. Sure it is very powerful, but it has lots of irksome bugs, and it's not the most user-friendly program in the world.

When iWork 08 came out, I abandoned Microsoft Office all together. For most people's needs, I think iWork is actually better software.

I prefer the old interface with Office 2004
Excel really took a step back in my opinion, but changes to that are supposed to be coming

I don't like the way Office thinks it knows more about what I want to do than I do

Thank goodness for Fusion - I've been using the Windows version of Excel on a VM for some time now since the native Mac version is just a truly inferior product. I'd love to switch to iWorks but living and working in a predominantly Windows environment prevents me from doing so.

I'll now have to do the same thing with Word. The issue with Spaces and more importantly, the 'disappearing cursor' issue are more than just annoying & inconvenient, they make the product UNUSABLE. This is inexcusable and a complete disgrace.

When did it become ok to charge $350 for a product which just doesn't work? How is this even remotely acceptable?

Is it any wonder I switched to Mac?

Me too!

I also have this problem (not with exposé, only with spaces)

The formatting palette has issues with spaces so when I use spaces I have to turn it on and off whenever I switch between them

It's so annoying - MS needs a fix for this.

Wow don't get me started w/ this crap. Would be easy to just switch to Pages, but I need the full MS Office Suite for work. So freaking annoying that it doesn't work right w/ expose and spaces... so annoying...

Sorry, guys. We know about the issue with Spaces. We've made some fixes to Office 2008 to address the issue, and Apple has made some fixes to Leopard to address it as well. But it's not 100% yet.

If you want full technical details about all of this, one of our senior developers wrote a blog post about it: risks and rewards. It's a long post with a lot of detail about what's happening and why.

I keep asking myself that every time I have to pull the power plug out of the back of one of my AppleTV units because the darn thing locked up and some dumb person didn't seem to think the unit needed a reset or power switch on it! Oh wait... that's an Apple product! You mean Apple releases things in the $300-400 range that have bugs? Say it isn't so! :p

I actually LIKE Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac so I'm just going to keep using it on my MBP instead of 2008 since there apparently isn't any real speed difference between running 2004 with Rosetta and running 2008 without it.

Nothing gets on my nerves the way this issue does. Especially when I'm studying for finals (now) and have a bunch of word documents open that I need to juggle around.

When will they release a damn fix? I upgraded to office 08 thinking it would be exactly that, an UPGRADE. Shame on me, it's Microsoft, I should've known better.

A quote from this article here, "For now, you’ll have to wait for Apple to release an update to or new version of OS X where Spaces works with apps that use Carbon Window Groups", makes me think we might see an improvement in Snow Leopard.
