I need some help... my father has a PC, and a WD My Book Home Edition. He's been using the WD software to do regular backups of his windows PC (photos, music, and documents). He's been thinking of switching to a new iMac, and it looks like this will be the time that it will finally happen, as his PC up and ate itself today. My question is this: can he plug his old MyBook into the new iMac when it arrives, and read the data directly off of it, or does Western Digital use some kind of proprietary archive format that will make it hard to recover his data from it? Yes i believe the mac will read the disk if it is formatted with the fat32 file system. I am not sure about NTFS though, You can plug it in and see if the mac detects it. You won't break it from just plugging it in.
