Ordered a new Black MB last Thursday, knew I shouldn't have done so over the Easter weekend, but thought hey, at least it will be delivered first thing Tuesday. Also ordered an iPod cable at the same time, both left the depot on Thursday and both showed the same tracking info on the UPS website.

Yesterday, Tuesday, came and went with no delivery, called my local UPS office at 7pm who said the driver ran out of hours so couldn't deliver, the package would be delivered next day. Queried package or packages? Only one, the other had been mis-directed to Barking (I'm in Norwich), guess which one was the MB...

Today, Wednesday morning, iPod cables arrive, MB still in Barking, didn't get shipped overnight to Norwich as expected. Hopefully tomorrow...

Question is, do I cancel and drive to Cambridge tomorrow to the grand opening of the new apple store and buy it there? It says in the T&Cs I can cancel anytime before delivery. I don't know if my MB is going to be damaged from a freezing weekend being bounced on and off UPS lorries. It is also principle, I ordered online as I wanted it asap...

If I cancel before delivery I presume I don't have to pay shipping?
Will I get a refund immediately or only when apple get it, inspect it?
Can I get my epp discount (similar to student) in retail store?

Your advice would be appreciated, I want to call apple this morning!

I'd wait for the courier. If it is damaged you can return it. Besides, it will probably take longer to cancel it and have it returned to Apple.

if you are cancelling, you won't get your money immediately.
the min. lead time they tell is around 10 days
but it can be more than that

even then, i think you should better wait and see

haste makes waste

Yes, but once received I have accepted it, and I'm worried it might be damaged by transiting several depots. They (ups) still haven't actually located it either, it might not turn up tomorrow. I need it by the weekend at the latest, preferably before as I have to do some installing. A visit to the opening of the new store in Cambridge might be a nice morning out, and at least then I am responsible for transit, not ups.

Oh and I get a free T-Shirt if I'm in the first 1,000 customers! :D

Yes, but I am trying to predict if there will be any damage, and also how long it is going to take to arrive. I can handle having two MBs on the credit card provided one will eventually be refunded.

I think under distance selling regs you have 14 days to return no quibble if you order online but you will have to pay shipping. Best to wait for delivery, if its damages then take it to the Cambridge store, pick up your tshirt and get them to swap it for you. If its ok then you can still go and get the tshirt so either way you win.

Tracking info now shows:

THIS SHIPMENT IS WAREHOUSED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY

Clearing Agency? Apple? Why?

Have you tried calling to see what is happening?

Many, many times. But UPS don't know where it is, only where it should be, which isn't where it is. They keep telling me it will be on its way to me in the next couple of days but can not actually tell me where it is. At one point UPS told me to call Apple as they would have better details of the laptops location they they do!

Apple are just as confused and told me if it doesn't come tomorrow and I decide to buy from a retail store they will pay for the return shipping of the original MB, if it ever turns up...

That's great- at least they're treating you well.

No as it is standard spec, it comes from a warehouse in Nuneaton (which isn't that far away...) only the BTO ones come direct. Saying that, I think small mods such as memory, they do here in the UK too.

It's Here!!!

Laptop finally arrived today, after 8 days with UPS it would have actually been quicker for me to pick it up from the Apple depot in Nuneaton, by walking there and back! Anyway, outer cardboard box was a bit dented so I made the delivery guy wait whilst I checked it out, but the white 'retail' box was fine. Only time will tell if there is any serious damage but for now, I don't care, I've got my new MB!
