Hi all,

I have not changed and settings at all on my mac but a few days ago started having trouble printing. I am running Leopard 10.5.2 on 2ghz intel dual core iMac.

I have a Lexmark e120n which was working perfectly until recently. Now, whenever I print (from any application) the print queue window appears but the printer then immediately stops the job and pauses itself. No matter how many time I un-pause and restart the job, it remains paused.

Each time it gives one of two errors, either:

  • /usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb failed
  • or something about pstops which appears and disappears too quickly for me to catch.

but most commonly the first one. There do not seem to be any different circumstances producing either message. It's always just one or the other.

In the print and fax pane of system preferences, the printer shows up at all times as 'paused'. I cannot change this.

I have restarted both the printer and the computer numerous times as well as resetting and reinstalling the printer.

I have the latest drivers from Lexmark. The printer itself is giving no error messages and will print a test page if I press the test button on it. It just can't print from the computer - a software issue.

I am a student and I can't afford a new printer - I really need to fix this - grateful for any help.:(
