I bought an iMac Intel dual 2.16GHz (10.5.2) second hand with some software already installed and used Migration Assistant to get some files, my Macmail emails and browser prefs over from my old G4.

Although I was sure not to check the box to move applications over to the new mac Migration Assistant disabled the whole of CS3. No matter which CS3 app I tried CS3 said "Serial number needed - The local file on your computer that stores the serial number associated with this installation was deleted ..."

I re-entered the serial number in PS and all other CS3 apps started working, except InDesign which crashes on launch and Acrobat Pro 8 which says, "Please enter the following information to personalize your copy of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional".

So now I have no Id or Acrobat Pro. I would strongly advise against Migration Assistant.

If anyone can get me out of this mess I would be most grateful as it severely limits my new iMac. Thank you.

You are going to have to completely uninstall CS3 and reinstall again. There should be an uninstaller on the CD.

There's nothing wrong with Migration Assistant at all.

You purchased a Mac with CS3 on it for which you do not hold the license. CS3 contains product activation features that tie a maximum of two installations to a total of 2 machines by a hardware key that is generated within the software.

If you were a legitimate owner of Adobe CS3 you'd deactivate one of the installs, and reinstall CS3 from the install discs, as advised in the product documentation. But since you do not seem to possess these licenses, we can not help you.
