I'm a bit confused by all the back and forth, so I hope you don't mind if I ask...
as of March 2008, are the MBP screens still experiencing the 1/3 yellowing problems? Are there more manufacturers now? LG, Samsung? etc? Which has the least amount of problems?

There are still some people that are complaining of yellowing. Yes.

It's probably not as bad as some people are saying, but there are those who say their's is VERY apparent.

Yes. I got an LG display (9c81) that had very bad yellowing. I got a replacement samsung (9c83) that isn't as bad but still has some yellowing at the bottom. Overall except for the instant on of the LED backlighting I'm pretty under impressed with the quality of the 15" screens.

The yellow color is not that bad. If I turn on full white background, the color difference is small.

So is the 9c81 the replacement for the old 9c67 and the 9c83 for the 9c68??
Are they still using these "older" screens or are all these new since the Penryn release?

I received my MBP last week, 9C81 display, and it is perfect. Bought it from Amazon.

Non on my hi res 17" matte =D all white perfectly all around top or bottom, pure white as snow!! :D 9c7a btw.

I've heard mostly good things online about the new 17". But I saw one at an Apple store last night and it looked perfect except it had a horrible strong blue color cast to it. It didn't hav the default Color LCD profile to set it to, the default profile was "Display". Very odd. Anyone seen anything like this?

I have a 17" Hi-Res penryn, and there's between 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch of slight yellow at the bottom, but I was looking for it and it's generally not noticeable at all.

I have had a hard time calibrating it, even with SuperCal, and I haven't seen many people post their profiles, but if you get it right the display is probably one of the best you'll find on a laptop.

A change of a color profile is in need. I d/led 2 profiles that someone calibrated for the 9c7a's and I like one of them that has a purplish push to it. After getting adjusted to the purple push, it actually brings out the colors more vividly + the whites look so neutral white than I've ever seen in my life! :D

The colors look more rich in real life as saturated! =D picture does no justice! Also this is 2 notches from the highest brightness!!

The yellowing is still out there, if you're thinking of getting a Macbook... Goodluck, it's a lottery.

IM on my 3rd replacement both were 9x82's, and currently waiting for the 3rd one to arrive, it is like a roulette...

I don't see the yellow tint, but am dissapointed with color gamut

Was a little disapointed with my 17" HiRes.

In fact I don't see some yellow or blue irregularities, it is just a little cloudy to the sides, especially the left. And Color and Brightness changes very much, if you change the angle of viewing slightly. Probably this is normal, I don't know, because it is my first laptop.

But wath surprised me was the small color gamut (82% of Iso Coated), I had expected more from LED.

By the way, I calibrated and profiled with basiccolor software (used the 20 day demo) and a Xrite and a EyeonePro as well. With both measurement devices I got surprisingly good grey balance and white point calibration. I can recommend to try basiccolor (dont have shares from that company!). It is just the small color gammut which is disapointing.

Yes.

My stock 2.4GHz Penryn, which I received today, exhibits a brownish-yellow tint (it almost resembles a drop shadow effect) which spans the bottom portion of the screen.

I called AppleCare and was advised to send the machine in for repairs. A box should arrive within the next two days. Hopefully, they'll replace the defective LCD display (model 00009C81) with one that works.

I compared my machine side by side with a stock 2.2GHz Merom (display model 00009C68) and the difference was amazing. The 00009C68 is uniformly white, exhibiting no color gradient, discoloration, or drop shadow effect whatsoever.

I have the 9C81 screen and when I first got it it has a slight yellow cast over the whole screen, but not the 1/3 yellowing issue. I calibrated it and now it is perfect. I tried all the background test, and no yellowing! I won in the Apple Lottery!! Well, except for my audio out issue....:(

Of course they will replace it. It's defective like most other MBP 15" LCDs.
