I've been looking this up on google and finding old news.

Does anyone know?

Thanks,

I never knew the true difference between MBP and PB, other than obviously MBP is powered with intel, etc. I wonder how this one will differ? I'll look it up.

I've had this powerbook g4 for about 2 or more years, using big programs like maya, FCP, etc..other than that awful crying sound it's only recently started making, it's been the most reliable computer I've ever had.
despite the wear and tear, it still pretty much operates in the same efficiency as when I first bought it.

as you probably know, Apple is always extremely tight lipped about anything concerning product releases. However, there are rumors that an update may come as soon as June since Intel is phasing out their old chips to make room for the new ones. However if an update doesn't come to the MacBook Pro I wouldn't be surprised seeing as how they already have the Penryn chips since the last update.

Yeau, I remember 2 or so years ago all the rumors and chatter about the powerbook G5 coming out "this year" why is everyone saying next tuesday? I want to see an official announcement.

Steve Jobs noted during the introduction of the MacBook Pro that Apple wants the word "Mac" in the name of all its Mac hardware products. Consequently, the trademark name "PowerBook" was retired in early 2006.

You clowns
:p

It's tuesday man, it's ALWAYS TUESDAY!!

those tuesdays, they just come out of FREAKIN' NOWHERE MAN!!!

tuesday... it'll be next tuesday... or the next... or the next... or the next... or.. the.....

Looks like people have had their fun.

The common wisdom (on all these forums) is get a new Mac when you are ready for one. Waiting for 'next Tuesday' is a mugs game and only leads to lost productivity and disappointment.

Innovation happens. Things get updated. Sooner or later, your new computer will be old.

Specific to now: MacBook Pro updated a month ago to the latest 'penryn' chips from intel. Loads of people waited ages for this update only to realise that it offered little in the way of noticable speed improvements.

I still use a G4 PowerBook and I love it. My housemate got a new MacBook Pro this week and although it looks almost identical, it is so, so , so much faster and since plauing with his trackpad with the iPhone like pinch and zoom and scroll, I have found myself doing it on my PB with no effect!

Short Answer: Recently updated- Buy Now

Hope this helps, although I hear rumours circulating about a new medium sized X-Mac. Could be worth waiting for!

Everyone should read this post! Stop waiting, seriously, just buy, be happy, and prosper! :)

But really, a medium sized X-Mac?? Hmmmm..

OK you guys, enough of the BS and time to really answer the question at hand.

Is a new MBP going to be coming out soon and when? The answer is yes.
Apple has a deal with Intel to ship out new Core 2 quad core processors some time later this year. They are probably going to be called Core 2 Quadro. You can expect the new Quad Core MPBs as early as the later part of this year, November or December or as late as early next year.

You can read up a little more on it here.

Does that help?

I wouldnt expect the powerbook back anytime soon.

OK zzzzzz, you've all had your fun, move on.

To the thread starter; asking such a cliched question is bound to get the answers you got. Do you know how many people have asked that same sodding question in the last few months/years? If we knew the answer to that it would mean that EVERYONE would know the answer to that, thus clearly NOBODY knows.

However, if you research a little you will find that:

MBPs have just been updated - clearly we can surmise that they won't be updated again in the very near future (basic economics etc etc)

New Intel chips are round the corner - June? Aug? Apple do not update with new chips always right when they come out. Result: who the hell knows? It's all speculation.

Basically, buy the damn thing when you need it and stop creating new threads when old ones will give you all the answers you need. Research is your best option, and wait if you like. There is always something better round the corner - my way of looking at it is to time it right and not get involved the rest of the time - waste of time, I'm sure you'll agree.
