I was wondering-- is it possible to loop a music playlist on the iPod touch?

Yes

When you are playing a song and have the touch upright, (don't recall what it is called) tap the screen to bring up the bar displaying how far you are into that song - on the left hand side there is a loop symbol that lets you loop the entire album/playlist (one tap) or just the song (tap the symbol twice)

Awesome! Thank you! I never would have found that on my own-- its hidden pretty well.

Is it the same with the all the music, say if you select "shuffle"?

but can you loop shuffle?

I've never done so, but I think you can.

However, I don't know how it works....since shuffling basically creates a random playlist (it's all done before hand, not as you are playing), I don't know if looping the shuffle just loops the same songs in the same order, or if it re-shuffles at the end of the playlist...

Top left, the loop, press it, once should be blue, twice, should have a little 1 (will loop once)
