Hi.

I am playing with my new MBP and wanted to know if iCHAT supports talking to buddies from Yahoo Messenger too, just like it does for AIM? I got the AIM one to work, and it says something about something called Bonjour (?) but nothing about Yahoo? Please let me know how to set this up as possible, that way I won't need separate programs for AIM and Yahoo Messenger.

PS- Does windows media player have a program for MACs? If not, whats the best program similar to Windows Media Player that I can use to view all the same video types as that?

Thanks!

Thanks for your response. Does anyone know for sure if Yahoo can or can't be used with iChat, and what is Bonjour as mentioned in iChat?
I do not think that iChat supports Yahoo. Correct me if I am wrong.

The direct equivalent of WMP on a Mac is Quicktime, but has its own filetype, etc, etc. Very similar to WMP actually in that regard. You can download WMP for your mac though....

No, Yahoo doesn't work on iChat. Jabber works for gTalk accounts and Bonjour is for LAN accts (MSN maybe?). Use Adium if you want a multi-IM account program. And please please please say Mac, not MAC.

It's worth noting that Yahoo messanger client itself works great with the built in iSight, but of course having multiple chat clients is quite the pain.

Does Adium allow you to use the built-in isight camera? Looking for a chat program that lets you use multiple accounts (i.e. yahoo and aim) and use the isight cam with it.

Yahoo messenger 3 beta has just been released for Mac. It allows audio/video chats. Pretty similar to Skype in the functions now. iChat would be a great app if it was opened for MSN,YAHOO etc but just a pipe dream. People have been asking for this for years now but still no sign of it ever happening. At the moment you’re pretty much limited to Adium if you want a descent IM client that allows you to access all your accounts but sadly even Adium lacks audio/video at this point. There is dicussions for future releases of Adium getting these 'missing' features but I've no idea about the time frame. If Adium had those functions it would signal an end to iChat IMHO.

And this is why many Mac owners won't use iChat and instead use Yahoo messenger or Skype for video chat or screen sharing.

I know this is an old thread, but worth revising.
