I have a MacBook pro (mid-2006 version) with a 2.33GHz processor. I currently have 3GB RAM installed and would like to have 4GB as I use Photoshop and FinalCut Pro heavily. When I bought the computer, 3GB was the max because of a limitation of Inte's chipset. I was wondering if one of the more recent firmware upgrades has changed this and now allows for 4GB RAM.

I had a feeling that would be the answer. Too bad.

raymondu999 - what do you think about the SSD?

Actually, the only other 1.8" drive I've used is my iPod, so I can't realy provide meaningful comparisons. however, from internet reviews, I hear it's overrated.

The SSDs are both too expensive right now and the right capacities are no viable.

Just get a 7.2k drive if you really need the speed.
