.mac Syncing to iPhone

Ok so there is one huge thing I think apple missed with the iPhone. I am sure many have been looking for this besides me. I mean this should have been rolled out from day one and doesn't need any special hardware.

Why can I not sync my iPhone directly to my .mac account. Is this too much to ask? I use my .mac account to keep all my information up to date one my two macs. It would be nice to have my iPhone sync up wireless to my .mac account and be in the look like my macs are. But NO, I have to sync my phone up to one computer to then sync up to my .mac account. Come one apple s this really so hard.

Hopefully this will come out as a application at WWDC, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. Does any one know if apple has the API avaible for .mac, if so I might just download the SDK and make mine on app.

I think with the Implamentation of ActiveSync They might be able to do something in the near future.

But I agree with you, it is terrible that this was not avalible in the beginning, i has bothered me allot.

Now my only experience with ActiveSync is the Motorola Q. And if memory serves me correct, it had to run in the background on a machine with outlook running, in order to work.

If this is the way ActiveSync still works, how would it work for us mac users. Or anyone who doesn't use/like outlook?
 
Apple has missed the mark on .Mac for some time now and I can only hope it will become something you won't want to live without.... but not yet!
 
I still have no idea why .mac wasn't pushed with the iPhone. I can't imagine how many people would sign up for .mac if it could sync mail, contacts, bookmarks, and calendar over the air the way email does.

They could even go so far as to offer a .mac subscription for people on a PC who would want to take advantage of this.

I am kind of disappointed in the amount of 'mac advantages' there are. I was really expecting iwork to be on the phone, as well as .mac syncing and iweb to encourage people to get the most of the iphone by using a mac, the same way they encourage people to get the most of their mac by using .mac
 
I would guess we are going to get this functionality for .Mac syncing before the year is out. I like my .Mac but I am even more looking forward to MS Exchange support for the iPhone due out in June.

I question how much Apple cares about dotMac, they push it real hard sometimes(iWeb) and then other times they don't do much with it.


Personal, I like the google solution much more...although the lack of syncing between iCal, Contacts and Mail on my Mac to my iGoogle account is a pain, but hey its free(and cross platform and I can use it on any device)
 
Apple have let .mac lag for so long now. Every time they release some new features it's a case of "Oh that's brilliant but really what you guys should have done is _____"

.Mac syncing to the iPhone is one of the big ones.

Well that is the thing, I want the contacts and calendar to sync wirelessly most of all. The email syncs just fine, but it seems silly that they left off the contacts and calendar syncing.

I am hoping June will reveal some nice wireless syncing options. I don't care if it isn't push, even if I have to manually sync, it would be a step in the right direction.
