Time Machine prefs forgotten each boot

I have a G4 PowerBook running Leopard, connected to a Time Capsule by both Ethernet and Wireless. Each time I boot it, I have to reset the TM prefs to use the TC drive. It works flawlessly in every other way, but why wouldn't it also remember the drive it's connected directly to?

THis is a minor quibble, but it is irritating, and it does ever so slightly reduce the utility of the software-hardware combination.
