From the BBC:
An "ethereal" 10 second clip of a woman singing a French folk song has been played for the first time in 150 years.

The recording of "Au Clair de la Lune", recorded in 1860, is thought to be the oldest known recorded human voice.

Astonishing… Recorded in soot? :)

thats pretty amazing.

would like to hear it, and Edison's too for that matter.

guess i'll go searching around for 'em

I personally thought it was incredibally scary sounding. Not just like, scary how that was figured out so long ago, but scary sounding. Creepy. Loved it though, amazing.

Wow that is freaky. All I could make out was the pitch changes. Reminds me of my grandfathers original Edison Phonograph. Very strange to hear sounds and music that are that old.

wow, that actually made me scared..how very very creepy can you get.
i totally agree with the poster above^^^^^...
