Anyone out there who knows where got reasonable priced repair man who can repair iBook?

My iBook is down due to faulty harddisk. Just need replacement i reckon. I need to get a new harddisk but how? where? from whom?

I approach the mac centre at wheelock place, they say give service centre. They say charge about $300, and this has not even included the harddisk price!

Please reply, macusers!.

Thanks
:)

as stated do it yourself.

have not done it on an ibook but had it done by someone and it was a stupid mistake, luckily i got a deal for 100 bucks out the door with 80 gb hdd, which i almost am certain you will never get.

plus, you prob do not have apple care so need to worry about the warranty.

its pretty long, but as long as you have a large workspace that is clean and organized, it can be done.
plan on not setting a time limit, as you do not want to rush this,
take it slow and steady, if something is not opening or coming apart, do not yank, breath or take a break and come back.

Of all the Macs I've taken apart before, I consider the iBooks to be the most difficult. If you are going to embark on doing the repair yourself, make sure you keep track of exactly where all the screws go. There are lots of them. Also, when initially prying the edge loose, an old credit card can be very handy. Good luck.

I print out the entire ifixit guide and then i tape each set of screws to the picture it corresponds with. Be patient, i've pulled apart a bunch of ibooks in the last few weeks, patients is the key. Also, if you dont have a apple black stick (spudger is what is referred to sometimes) use a guitar pick.
