From a BlackBook owner (2.4) - Keyboard still tends to get oily

Hi

I've had a Blackbook for a week now. I can see after hours of use that the keys (some of 'em) is a bit more black than they other. BUT when I wipe the keyboard of with the cloth Apple includes, it comes right off.

So I'll still recommend that you wipe your keyboard/pad off daily.

Just from my point of view :)

But nice machine and color though
 
So would that mean it is fair to say that people with oily older black MBs are just not cleaning the oil off? I have seen many pictures of oily trackpads and keys and it made me question the black one. Maybe they are just not cleaning them correctly?

it doesn't clean itself! I find myself using my iKlear after each use, on the screen, casing and keyboard/touchpad. After all that hard work, my BlackBook 2.4 deserves a nice "Rubdown!" :p

Wow! Your like me with my Apple stuff! I just got an iPhone and I find myself using iKlear on it nightly to take away any fingerprints. :cool:

But is it enough to use the cloth that was included? 'Cause I don't want to pay for iKlear, and don't want to use it. Don't like liqudes on my Macbook :). No it does'nt harm the macbook but is the cloth enough?
 
not sure if I'm happy with just the enclosed black cloth. I don't spray my BlackBook with iKlear, I spray the microfiber cloth then rub the screen, keyboard, touchpad, and casing; then finish up with the polishing cloth. IMHO :cool:
 
that;s some pretty obsessive behaviour.
i have the blackbook 2.2.
yes it gets oily, and yes, the black cloth is enough to remove the oily marks.

i'm doing it about every weekend.
plus, the problem seems to get better over time. maybe that's just me not noticing it as much.

mr clean magic erasers are SERIOUSLY magic on white and black macbooks.

Well, I still don't like the idea with liqudes. But maybe a clean T-shirt would be a good idea? .. I will definitly try it today :cool:. Do you think that's a good idea? I won't scratch 'cause it's made of wool. Maybe it's better than the black cloth?:confused:

The black cloth seems to work fine on my new blackbook, I'm being a little obsessive with it too! haha I'm also glad that I don't have to clean my iMac like this though.
 
I'm getting some oily fingerprints on the exterior casing, but they wipe off easily. Been using a cheapie $8 shipped eBay silicone keyboard cover (function keys don't match the new layout oh well I've memorized it) for a week or so and have gotten used to it so no worries about spills, oils, crumbs, pet hair, dust in my MB's innards. Man, you'd be surprised how much dust and stuff this thing saves your keys from. I rinsed the cover the other day, shook it out, and let it hang to dry for about an hour. Took a little getting used to at first, but now it's easy to type on it.

Anybody get a skin for their trackpad? (If so, where and $?) I'm thinking of that as all my old 'Books have shiny spots on their trackpads.
 
I don't think I have become as anal retentive as some about my new Blackbook, but I do protect it well. I wipe it down with the black cloth after every use. Luckily, I don't have to worry too much about scratches. I bought the hardshell Incase cover for it, and it works like a charm. So far, I haven't had the need to use iKlear or any liquid for that matter. I bought an iSkin to protect the keyboard and I have a Moshi Palmguard for the wristrest. It came with a clear skin for the trackpad, so I'm not worried too much about oil from my hands.

I'm trying to preserve my baby for as long as possible. I'm like a new mother, I don't want to let it go. I'd sleep with it, but for fear of crushing it, it lies next to my bed on the side table. :D

I brought a eyeglass cleaner for the screen. I'm waiting on a keyboard cover from ebay, I have allergies and tend to sneeze a great deal. :rolleyes: Spring time in Georgia.

But what does iKlear contains? Is it some kind of water-mixture, because I don't like the idea of liqueds on my Macbook :)
 
When I had a first generation core duo 2.0 GHZ BlackBook, I cleaned the thing once a week with just an undershirt and water. Worked fine.

But water on a MB? - I freacked out when my dog dribbled over my MB. Though it was a VERY little amount, I still was a bit scared! :)

But is it a good idea to put water on a computer?
 
dirty blackbook.

It really does take daily maintenance to keep a black macbook looking pristine. Not only does it show oil marks but also any light colored specs of dust are immediately noticeable. I use Swiffer Dusters for dust and a solution of dilutted rubbing alcohol & water for oil marks.

It seems to work pretty well, but its a job and after a while you learn to live with some smudges until its next cleaning.
 
oh i use clorox wipes on where my palms rest until the finish ripped of so then i bought a rubber coover but for the display i use a microfibre cloth:D
 
iklear, clorox wipes, etc....man, what's with all the chemicals folks?!? I've used nothing but water and a microfiber cloth on my REV A MacBook and it's like new after nearly 2 years. I really think people should give this an honest try.

well i use microfber cloth with damp on screen but i use the dis infectant on lik where my hands rest to keep it not germy and gross :p
