AND IT HAS 2 STUCK PIXELS!

I've been patient and calm and rational. The first screen that the laptop came with had a horrible backlight bleeding issue. The second screen was messed up beyond belief for a "new" screen. The casing was warped around the screen pretty badly. There looked to be a crack in the screen and after 2 days, a pixel died.

Now, I got this new screen and I looked at it at the Apple Store and it looked fine. I put on a black background to see if there was any stuck pixels, I didn't see any. I put it on a white background to try and spot any dead pixels. None.

I get back to my apartment, turn it on and the first time I go to a black screen, there are 2 f'in stuck pixels within about an inch of each other.

I'm running a little utility that runs the pixels through red, green, blue, black, and white. I've tried it twice so far for 5 minutes each. And the issue is still there. I'm now doing it for 20 minutes.

Any other ideas? I don't think 2 stuck pixels is within their replacement policy, so I would be pretty screwed. The guys at the Genius bar have been very kind towards me, so I have nothing against them. But it looks to me that Apple is sending refurbished parts as replacements. Hmmm... WHY? The part was returned to Apple for a reason. This is the 2nd replacement screen I've gotten from them. Does the concept of money elude them?

I thought the AppleCare agreement only allowed one replacement of the screen? Did you have issues getting the 2nd replacement? The reason I ask is because I had mine replaced, and am having issues with this new screen.

They can't stipulate just one replacement screen. I've had machines where they've replaced it numerous times. A bad screen is a bad screen! It's their fault that they don't have better quality control, not the customer's fault.

Hope you insist on a new screen and that you get one that is good!

I just made another Genius Bar appointment for 7:30. I'm going to be nice unless they jerk me around. It took them 2 weeks to get a replacement screen the 1st time, which is unacceptable, and this screen is also defective. I spend 2 grand on this laptop. If I wanted a POS I would have stuck with my Acer or bought a cheap Dell.

One more screen replacement until you get a new computer. ;)

no but seriously, go complain to them. They might just give you a new penryn. :D

LOL!

I'm just wanting the same quality I had with my other MBP (bought 3 weeks prior to that). The screen on that was perfect. Is that too much to ask at the price I paid for this MBP? I personally don't think so.

I just put it on a completely black background, and I see a total of 4 stuck white pixels (of varying brightness).

1 is very bright. One is noticeably bright and is about an inch away away from the bright one. The other two are centered almost directly at the center of the screen and are "dim," but there nonetheless.

Thanks for the advice on taking my screen back to Apple. Sorry for the brief tangent.

Back to OP's issue - yeah, it sounds like you have some dead/defective pixels. Stuck pixels are different (the flashing screen fix "unsticks" them).

I'd take it to an Apple Store and show them the screen with the black background. Good luck! I'll probably take mine next week as well.

Not the ones I've tried it on. I tried for 20 minutes. Of course, they're welcome to try, but like I said, I tried for 20 minutes and a few other times at 5 minutes each.

No no, what I meant was there's two common pixel issues I see:
1) Stuck pixels
2) Dead/defective pixels

The flashing screen fix works for the former - it will not work for the latter. It sounds like yours is the latter.

Dead pixels appear black on a white background, not white on a black background. They're stuck/hot pixels.;)

I don't think so either, but you're pushing your luck. Statistically, you have about 3 more "bad" screens before you get another "good" one.

Seriously though, there really is no perfect screen... I've gone through about six of them. However, the proximity of the two stuck pixels to each other and the fact that it's in the center of the screen should make it easier for the "genius" to do another screen replacement. If everything else is OK on the system, I think it's better to just replace the screen than to roll the dice on another unit.

Yeah. I'm not going to ask for another unit. But if they offer... How can I say no? ;)

I'm really not after another laptop. I'm after getting the screen to be acceptable to me. And I've discovered far more than 2 stuck pixels by now, but the 2 that I mentioned earlier are the most noticeable.

All I'm really after is no stuck/dead pixels (at least none that I can notice, such as in the center of the screen). No serious backlight bleed (a little backlight bleeding is a given, but my first screen had a horrible backlight bleed). Of course, no scratches (on a new screen), cracks, pressure points (basically shipping damage).

I don't think that's too much to ask. That's pretty much what anyone would expect from any LCD screen.

Agreed, I'm getting my 3rd replacement MBP next week due to screen issues. Unfortunately the quality of mac screens is no different than others. :apple: should step up QC and be actually "better" in this area. It would probably save them $ in the long run too.

I took it to them and they're going to repair it, again. They were, of course, really nice about it and didn't hassle me about it, which is, of course, nice.

Yeah if it's 3 replacements, you can pretty much as for a new computer or a refund.
