I made a post a about 3 weeks ago regarding my brand new MBP's speaker pop. Whenever it's about to make a sound, the sound card will wake up, you'll get a POP from the speakers, then the noise you're looking for.

Also, when external speakers are installed, you can hear some BEEPING, SCREECHING and other noises occassionally.

On the Apple Support Discussion Page, it Appears to be a major problem. Here, people are only concerned with the yellow screen.

So I wonder, do any of you have the speaker issues? It was non-existant in my Powerbook G4, but I got up close and personal with some Macbook Pros at the Apple store last night, and I could notice the delay in sound (As the sound card powered up) but it was too loud to notice if it was popping.

Anybody have a solution? Or is this baby really going to have to go back to apple???

its pretty much unavoidable. it seems like all macbook pros have it. I'm on my "new" 2.4 SR Macbook pro and it still does it like my 2nd gen 2.33 MBP.

It may seem like a major issue on the Apple support forums, but that's because a large majority of the people will the issue will specifically look to post on a forum.

I think it's not a major issue, but you'd expect Apple to solve it soonish...

Yep I have it. I'm on a SR 2.2. When I have my external speakers hooked up I can't notice anything but, if I'm watching something in Quicktime with my headphones on and I pause it. The card makes high pitched screeching and other annoying noises.

I think it just might be the card that Apple uses in MBP's. Hope they fix it soon though.

So how are you coping with it? I was told to use "SoundOn" which keeps the sound card on, but it was developed for Powerbooks, and for some reason can really be a memory hog (Probably the Powerbook vs. Intel chips?) Are you just living with it?

People seem to think it's a software issue as well. So when you say you hope they fix it soon, do you mean you'll go out and buy a new Macbook? Or are you hoping they have a new software release addressing it?

I understand that forums are for issues, I was just surprised to come here and see nobody posting about it, when everybody is discussing it over there. I wasn't sure if you guys all knew of something that prevented the Pop, or if the pop was just an issue in an isolated number of Macbooks?

I had a last generation 2.4GHz/800MHz/4MB 15.4" Macbook Pro, and never heard anything like that, thankfully. Lousy audio seems to be common on laptops. I hadn't heard about issues with the Macbook Pro, but maybe it's just luck of the draw.
