A couple of weeks ago the Apple store replaced my Late 2007 Macbook with an Early 2008 Macbook because of a botched repair job (replaced logic board was bad, computer wouldn't turn on 3 hours after picking it up). While we were doing the switch I asked for the new restore CDs to which I was told the old ones would work just fine.
Fast forward to today, I put the restore CDs in and it tells me they aren't supported on this system. This isn't entirely surprising because its a different model Macbook. After speaking with Applecare they told me to contact the store. I called the store and spoke with a Manager, he said he would have a set of restore CDs set aside and that I could come in any time to pick them up.
3 hours later I stop at the Apple store. I told the guy at the door that I called earlier and spoke with a manager who said I could pick up some restore CDs. He seemed slightly confused but walked to the back of the store. He never asked my name, nor who I spoke with. He simply asked what type of system it was for, I told him an Early 2008 Macbook. 5 minutes later I walked out with my restore CDs.
Maybe it made a difference that I called first, however, I have a feeling that it wouldn't have mattered.
