A couple of weeks ago the Apple store replaced my Late 2007 Macbook with an Early 2008 Macbook because of a botched repair job (replaced logic board was bad, computer wouldn't turn on 3 hours after picking it up). While we were doing the switch I asked for the new restore CDs to which I was told the old ones would work just fine.

Fast forward to today, I put the restore CDs in and it tells me they aren't supported on this system. This isn't entirely surprising because its a different model Macbook. After speaking with Applecare they told me to contact the store. I called the store and spoke with a Manager, he said he would have a set of restore CDs set aside and that I could come in any time to pick them up.

3 hours later I stop at the Apple store. I told the guy at the door that I called earlier and spoke with a manager who said I could pick up some restore CDs. He seemed slightly confused but walked to the back of the store. He never asked my name, nor who I spoke with. He simply asked what type of system it was for, I told him an Early 2008 Macbook. 5 minutes later I walked out with my restore CDs.

Maybe it made a difference that I called first, however, I have a feeling that it wouldn't have mattered.

They gave you some "bum-scoop" b/c they must have the Install discs for that particular model. Anytime I need repair or need a tech to look at my MBs' I ensure that I bring everything, including the MB box, just in case there is an exchange in store! Looks like they made you make an extra trip to the Apple Store.

Celeron, could you do me a favor and email me one file from the new restore disc? It's \Drivers\Apple\AppleKeyboardInstaller.exe on Install Disc 1, which you can only see if you open the DVD in Windows. I have no Apple Store nearby, and the phone support wasn't very cooperative. And I only need one 2MB file, not the entire disc. See my thread about it here.
Thank you.

I shouldn't have to bring everything with me to the store. I had brought my original discs when it was agreed they were going to swap out the machine. I even inquired about swapping the discs, to which I was told it wasn't necessary. So in the end, yah, I had to make another trip, bringing the total number of trips for this problem up to 7. Thankfully, I think I'm finally done with this issue.

Weird. I took my mac is, and they swapped it out. They just gave me a whole new box, including Apple Remote, Power Cord, and Install CDs... I only gave them my mac, so I now have 2 of everything.

That's strange. It's funny how I hear a new and amazing customer service story every day. *wonders*
