I'd appreciate any suggestions. What options are available for wireless internet access for the MBA? There isn't access to an internet connection so I'm guessing it would have to be a through a wireless internet plan like Verizon or AT&T?

I'm not sure what you mean? Wireless internet doesn't necessitate 3G or anything like that through a cell phone carrier. You can access the internet wirelessly just you with any other computer. The MBA's airport gives you access from any wireless internet in the area. If there isn't any wireless internet where you are, well, you can get an ethernet adapter and plug that in. Or you can buy a cheap wireless router for your home, and you can make your wired internet connection wireless.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The person using the computer will not have internet access in his room (no ethernet or dial up connections) and was told he'd have to get it through a wireless internet plan like Verizon.

No internet access in his room? Is there internet access elsewhere in his house, or is there simply no internet access in the region he lives?

If it's the former, then it's simple to get a wireless router and plug it into where the internet access in his house is. If you mean there's no internet access where he lives, then there's satellite internet, which will bring it to his house. But like you said, he can also get an internet plan with a cell phone carrier. He'll need a USB dongle to use it with a MacBook Air.

No internet access in the dorm where he will be (air force base). Is the USB dongle the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter that Apple sells?

Any ideas on how I can find out what wireless internet plans are offered? I've tried getting him to find out what other students are doing but he just wants me to make sure the computer is activated. He thinks he needs some sort of wireless internet access card but I wasn't sure how that works with the MacBook Air, if you still get a card through a provider. I heard some people there get Verizon wireless internet but I was not sure if that worked with a MacBook Air or what other plans are available. He'll only be there for a few months but I read that most contracts are a year long so students sell off the rest of the contract to someone else?

Thanks for any info, sorry if this is confusing.
