EDGE is the internet for the iPhone. It's 2.5G technology, which it's not that new, but the service is available anywhere you have service on your phone. It's not that fast, but it gets the job done.
You've probably heard of 3G, or will be hearing about it. That is the faster internet compared to EDGE, but is still scarcely available.
That isn't technically true, or at least it isn't where I live. I was playing with an iPhone in an O2 store and there wasn't an Edge signal although there was a strong mobile signal. I asked the sales guy and he said I won't get an Edge signal everywhere.
I suppose it depends what hardware/software exists in the base station you are connected to.

So in the UK the iphone is only available on the 02 Network, which comes with unlimited data. Does this mean i can browse the web as much as i like?
I also use hotmail for my email. Can iphone work with this?
Cheers
Hi,
I am going to buy a 16gb iphone tomorrow, but before i do i was wondering if someone could help explain what EDGE is?
Does it mean i have the internet anywhere i go?
How quick is it?
