Hey I was thinking about purchasing a Power Mac G5 for my business and was wondering if you could installthe 10.3 Panther OS on it because the software i use only supports os 10.3 and lower.

Thanks
-Mike

On any system manufactured before 29 April 2005 (Tiger release date) it won't be a problem, as 10.3 was the OS that shipped with the unit.

It *shouldn't* be a problem installing on machines made after then, but you'd be wise to double check if the system was made after the above date as there may be some unsupported tehnologies on the newer hardware; PCI Express for example, was not a technology available when Panther (10.3) was the shipping OS (the PCI Express based G5's started shipping in October 2005), so the final Panther updates may or may not support it.

What kind of software do you use that needs a PowerMac G5? Perhaps you would like an iMac G5, or even a high end iMac G4 or PowerMac G4. They would certainly be compatable with 10.3, and cost much less too.

Maybe he needs multiple processors or a lot of raw processing power? Who knows, many times software developers will not update a program if it works fine for what they do or if a piece of harware reliant on the software is too old for newer programs.

PMG5s are good computers, go for it!
